Ernest Madu (born February 18, 1960) is an internationally renowned entrepreneur, nuclear cardiologist, and academic. Dr. Madu’s work focuses on providing affordable public healthcare in low-resource nations.

Dr. Madu is the founder and chairman of the Heart Institute of the Caribbean, the leading hospital for cardiac surgery and care in the Caribbean region. Prior to founding the Heart Institute, Madu held various academic appointments at Universities throughout the United States, such as Vanderbilt University. Madu’s research concentrates on the management and health effects of globalization in susceptible populations. Richard Chazal, president of the American College of Cardiology, noted that Madu has made “great contributions to the College and to the international cardiovascular community.

He holds the academic rank of Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and Imaging Technology and is respected globally for his contributions to cardiovascular medicine and health systems innovation. He is a leading expert in leveraging technology to bridge the access gap in quality healthcare delivery and has used his expertise in leading innovative and transformational healthcare projects in Africa and the Caribbean.

Professor Madu is frequently invited around the world to speak about disruptive approaches to healthcare delivery. His opinions are regularly sought by leading international organizations and think tanks like TED, World Policy Journal, General Electric, UNICEF, US-Africa Business Summit, World Healthcare Congress, The Commonwealth Fund and World Medical Tourism Association. Prof Madu has published more than 100 scientific papers in peer reviewed medical journals and his work has been profiled in leading journals and magazines. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the European Society of Cardiology and the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, and was most recently awarded the fellowship of the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences. Professor Madu is the Managing Partner of IHS Group, Nashville, USA and also serves as Chairman and CEO of the Heart Institute of the Caribbean, Jamaica.

About The Heart Institute of the Caribbean is a cardiac hospital and care institute on the island of Jamaica, specializing in cardiology, cardiovascular medicine, and cardiovascular surgery. The Heart Institute was founded in 2005 by cardiologist Ernest Madu. Headquartered in Kingston, Jamaica, the Heart Institute of the Caribbean also operates additional branches in Mandeville, Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios. In 2018, the Heart Institute established the first cardiac intensive care unit and heart surgery operating theatre on the island of Jamaica.
